Application of chemical engineering principles in the production of chemical product:

Firstly, Penicillium mold is required to produce penicillin. In mass production the mold will be placed in fermentation tanks (fermentation). In the tank, the penicillium mold will be added to a mixture added with sugar. As the mold grows and ferments, penicillin will be produced and dissolve in nutrient broth(initially water and sugar). The nutrient broth will then be filtrated (filtration) and mixed with an acid. The broth-acid mixture will then be added into a solvent (butyl acetate) in order to carry out the liquid-liquid extraction of the penicillin. Penicillin will then be obtained by means of evaporation.
