In mass production the mold will be placed in fermentation tanks ( fermentation ). In the tank, the penicillium mold will be added to a mixture added with sugar. As the mold grows and ferments, penicillin will be produced and dissolve in nutrient broth(initially water and sugar). The nutrient broth will then be filtrated ( filtration ) and mixed with an acid. The broth-acid mixture will then be added into a solvent (butyl acetate) in order to carry out the liquid-liquid extraction of the penicillin.
